Constant Shifting

This world
is filled with violence
in a constant shifting
ebb and flow.

Even things that look
peaceful,
like a beautiful bubbling stream
with an impressive waterfall,
are very slowly
grinding
down
the mountain.

Everything here returns
to dust,
sometimes quite painfully
with lots of angst
along the way.

That is why we are told
to love without reason.
For we are all
really
confronted with the same
problem.

Remember this,
and remember also,
that everyone who reacts
in anger
is really repeating
the same ancient mistake.

Everyone who kills
is forgetting
that she
or he
is sister or brother
to all the world.

Hatred is
the original
insanity.

Learn to embrace
your sanity.
It is there.

Listen to the voice
of love within.
It may be very quiet
if you haven’t been
paying attention.

Remember
that we are all stuck
in this madness
together.

And we all
free each other
with the love we give
and the peace
we share.

So love, my friends,
love.

Soon

I know
That you will be
Home
Soon.

I wait with joyful longing
As you
Choose
To delay.

When?

Will it be today
That you decide
You can bear this suffering
(That suffering)
No longer?
Or will you delay
One more day
One more century
One more civilization
One more epoch.

Do you want to be
The Last
On board this train
My dear?

The darkness says yes.
I say no.
Whom will you heed?

A Thousand Shrill Voices

I have a metaphor for you.
Seagulls flock
And scream
When you eat the chicken leg
In front of them
And disappear quickly
Once dinner is put away.

Do you see?

I will explain.

When you do
What you must
There will be
A thousand shrill voices
Longing to disturb you.
When you stop
They are satisfied.

The lesson?

Do what you must
Anyway.

It Is

Happiness is not
dependent
on any thing
in this
tired
world.

All things here
are transient
winking in
and out
of life.

The true joy
cannot be
fueled
from such an
inconsistent
source.

Yet it is
there.
It is
true.

It is
the one
thing
that is
undying.

Seek that,
dear friends.
Seek that!

The Missing Thing

It’s not-entirely-untrue
That you have
A God-shaped hole
In your life.

As a matter of fact,
You do.
But it’s not as small
As you think.
It’s God-shaped,
Yes,
And you-sized.

You are the God-shaped hole.
So, fill yourself with Love.
Fill yourself with Peace.
Fill yourself, your emptiness
With All Eternity.

Accept no substitute
For you cannot —
How could you be —
Satisfied
With anything else
Anything beyond
The Missing Thing
To begin with?

Seriously?

We seem to have picked up
the bad habit
of dividing into teams.

Us Vs Them.
Shirts Vs Skins.
Like after school
Basketball.

Except
it’s not just
a game,

and it’s not actually
The Superbowl For Your Soul.

God always wins
And You never lose.

But another bad habit
is that we treat
this wild
crazy
life

far
far
too
seriously.

Valet Parking, Part II

They’re always bidding you
To delay
Or return outright.
Lost keys,
No making change for a hundred,
And your vehicle!

Oh, the structural damage they’ve done
On the about-town joyride
They’ve taken you for
While you were distracted.

Upholstery trashed
Paint job ruined
Bumpers missing
Tires slashed
Gas tank empty

Why do you put up with this?
Sane people would complain
So loudly
With such elegance
And blasphemy
That God Herself
Would come running
With legions of angels
In the Vanguard
Clearing out
The valet parking for hell
And lighting
The now clear path
Home.

What is Not There

Addicts
sometimes replace
one bad habit
with another.

Hard drugs
with cigarettes,

Alcohol
with nail biting,

TV watching
with internet addiction.

But this
is seeking
for what is not there.

Like a man
wandering lost
in Death Valley

Ignoring all
the flashing
neon signs:

OASIS →
THAT WAY!

It is time,
Dear One,
for you
to unstop your ears,
and listen.

The Beloved
will tell you
what to do.

His voice
at first
is much softer that
the angry screaming
you
have been listening to.

But if you listen
to Him only
the Desert
will
Bloom!
