Step One

First, you must stop.
Stop what?
Stop most everything
Everything but Love
And even somethings you thing are love, but are, in fact,
Something else.

Getting to step one
Has only taken you
Twelve billion years, give or take
And so, I congratulate you–
You are finally ready
And all of Heaven rejoices.

Stopping is hard at first –
It helps to begin with noticing.
Where am I less than loving?
In my thoughts,
In my words,
In my deeds,
To myself,
To others,
To everything?
If you like, start noticing it
In other people.
Don’t get too carried away, though.
For every single thing you notice
In someone else
Also resides in you.
Judge not,
Lest you be judged.

And then, when you’re good and ready,
Begin to stop.
Stop the hate.
Stop the division.
Stop the jealousy.
Stop the lying.
Stop the manipulation.
Stop the pain-creation.
Stop all shred of negativity.
Take a fast from anger and
Never go back.
Cleanse your inner self,
Just as you might cleanse your colon.
You will find that your sensitivity increases
Allowing you to stop even mroe
At even deeper levels.

It is inevitable in this process
That you discover about yourself
Horrific things
Hiding under carpets
And in the closets of your soul.
Don’t be afraid.
They were there ten minutes before you found them and freaked out.

And when you have started
Step One
In earnest
You can begin Step Two.
But don’t worry.
You’ll be back,
Before you’re done.

Three Easy Steps

Lean in dear one
For I have a secret to tell;
It’s all about perspective.

You may be aware that
Different people
Can have radically different
View points
Of the self same thing.

If you can think of no examples,
Consider politics.
But not for long.

Now consider God.
God does not consider things the same way you do,
But you can change that.
Not by changing God, dear one.
God is unchanging and
Already perfect.
Its you who are
A work in progress.

You can heal your life
In three easy steps.

Step one: Stop.
This is the hardest part.
Step two: Listen.
This is also the hardest part.
Step three: Change.
This is very nearly the hardest part.

But Sare, you say,
You said it was easy!

Once you finish it,
You’ll look back and say,
That wasn’t so bad
Why did I wait so long?
I should have done that ages ago.

In Here

Love is what happens
When we stop fighting
God
When we are finally tired enough
Of the nightmare hell.

Then Love holds us
Sweetly singing
A beautifully familiar tune
And we see through the hell
To see the beauty
That was
Always
There

Not out there.
In here.

Patience

Distractions are everywhere, here.
How perfect coffee is made
What happens when black holes die
The search for the perfect shoes
And every other preoccupation
This life can manufacture.

The point is, of course, distraction.
The real gain is hidden behind
Quietly waiting.

Has your dissatisfaction
Reached critical levels
Yet?

No?

Never fear.
God is patient.

Variations on a Theme

Your deepest pain is sending
Letters
The contents of which are
Shockingly similar
One to the next
All variations on a theme,
Really.

They all
Beg
Plead
And threaten.

You’ve been recycling them
Unopened.

But now that I have
Your attention,
I will humbly admit
To being in their employ.

No, don’t shut the door.

You have been
Cordially Invited
To attend to the
Healing
Of your deepest pain.
Your RSVP is overdue
And your suffering
Is only increasing.

But no–
Don’t dress in your
Dirty paint-stained shirt
And the jeans
That have holes
In unmentionable places.

Put on your party dress
Because as soon as you’re well
We’ll dance all night.

Cheeky Keys

My key ring is enormous.
Gargantuan.
I have a hundred
Keys to God.

Sometimes
I get guerrilla
And start dropping them
In seemingly
Random places
That you often frequent.

You picked one up
Last week
An orange skeleton key
Bright brass
And you had
An unwavering
And odd feeling
It was smiling at you
That you promptly forgot
As you lost it
In the bottom
Of your bag.

No matter.

I will drop
A hundred more winking keys
That will cheekily grin
Until you finally
Grin back.

Don’t Bother Wondering

Shall I tell you a story?
It has a happy ending.

I used to swim
In a pool of misery
Every day.
I was religious about it.

One day —
The first of many —
I thought,
“This sucks.
Is this really it?
Or am I missing
Something?”

Misery assured me
With a crocodile smile
That this was it,
I was missing nothing,
This was the best
I could hope for —
And at least here
I got to swim.

And that very first time
I wondered if
Maybe
Just
Maybe
Misery was full of shit.

And here’s your
Happy ending:
Now I don’t bother
Wondering.
I
Know
Instead.
