Their Patience

God has hired contractors
To demolish the wall
You built around your heart
But all they do,
Those glorious angels
In hard hats
With their bad-assed
Ancient tattoos
That proclaim
In languages long dead
Their utter allegiance
And perpetual love
For their Creator alone,
Is sit around smoking
And gossiping.

“Did you see Samuel?
He’s so close,
But there is that
Black tentacle monster
He let back into his heart
Last week.
His Uriel is bored, I heard,
Waiting, waiting, waiting,
Putting out fires elsewhere
Until he’s called back
Into service.”

“Have you checked in with Melissa
Since that snooty Dominion
Showed up
All mysterious
And powerful?”

And so on.
And so forth.
For years.

You see,
You have yet to sign off
On this demo project,
Despite your angst
And sophistry.

Cobwebs are growing
From the pen
To the clipboard
But God’s crew
Is known for
Their Patience.
